Privacy policy

Effective October 19, 2026 · Last updated October 19, 2026

This page explains, in plain words, what happens to the information you give us on this website. It covers the website and the waitlist only. Study Buddy is not open to the public yet; the private beta and the app will have their own privacy notice, which you'll see before you use them, and a parent will be asked for consent before any child uses the app.

Who we are

Study Buddy is a project by Charlie Brand and Jorge Carrillo Watanabe, students at the University of San Diego, in San Diego, California. Study Buddy is not a registered company yet. You can reach us at hello@studybuddy.study.

What we collect

Only what you give us in the waitlist form: your name, your email, your role (parent or guardian, teacher, therapist, or other), your confirmation that you are 18 or older, and whether you'd join a 15-minute call.

With it we save a few details about the sign-up itself: the date you joined and the last date you sent the form, whether you used the English or Spanish page (we write to you in that language), and which version of this policy you agreed to. If you came from a link with a code in it (for example “?src=flyer”), we save that code too: the first one you arrived with and the latest one. It tells us which flyer or message brought you here, nothing more.

We never ask for your child's name, your child's email, their school, or any diagnosis. Please don't send them to us.

What happens automatically

Our website runs on Cloudflare, a web hosting company. Like any website, Cloudflare handles basic technical details, such as your internet address and type of browser, to show you the page and block abuse. To stop spam, the form counts sign-up attempts per internet address for about one minute. Cloudflare also keeps short technical logs (for example, which page was asked for and any errors) for a few days so we can fix problems. We don't save your internet address in our waitlist.

Right now this website uses no advertising tags, no analytics tools and no cookies of its own, and it doesn't store anything in your browser. (Cloudflare may use a strictly necessary security cookie to tell people from bots.) We don't track you across other websites, so a browser's “Do Not Track” setting doesn't change anything here.

Why we use it

To invite you to the private beta if a spot opens that fits you. To email you when Study Buddy opens. To set up a short call, only if you said yes. To count how many people joined from each flyer or link, so we know where to spend our time. That's all.

Who can see it

Only the two of us, Charlie and Jorge. The list is stored with Cloudflare, our web host, which handles it for us only to run this website. We never sell, rent or trade your information, we don't share it with anyone for their own use, and we don't use it for targeted advertising.

How long we keep it

This is our own rule: we keep your information until you ask us to delete it, or until 24 months after you join if Study Buddy hasn't opened to you by then, whichever comes first. If we stop working on Study Buddy, we delete the whole list.

Your choices

Email us at hello@studybuddy.study to see what we have about you, fix it, or delete it. We'll do it within 30 days, usually much sooner. Every email we send will tell you how to stop getting them.

If you live in California

We don't sell or share your personal information, as California law uses those words, and we don't use it for targeted advertising. Study Buddy is a small student project and doesn't meet the size thresholds of California's main consumer privacy law (the CCPA), but we give everyone the same basic rights anyway: to know what we have, to correct it and to delete it, without any penalty for asking.

Children

This website and waitlist are for adults (18 or older). We don't knowingly collect information from anyone younger. If you think a child sent us their information, email us and we'll delete it.

We are building Study Buddy with children's privacy laws (COPPA and FERPA) in mind. Today the private beta is for adults only. Teens 13 to 17 will be able to use the app only with a parent's consent, and not before December 2026. Children under 13 won't use it until our parent consent process is set up and reviewed by a lawyer. We will never use a child's homework or information to train AI.

Keeping it safe

The website only works over a secure (HTTPS) connection, and only the two of us can open the list, with a password.

Changes to this page

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change affects how we use information you already gave us, we'll email you first.
